The Hamta Pass trek is yet another popular option available in the Kullu valley. It’s ideal for those who are looking for quick getaway. The initial part of the trail for this trek winds through some of the heavily-wooded stretches of protected forest in the area where the air is rich with the fragrance of Oak, Himalayan Cedar, Pine, Rhododendron and Juniper. As you climb up, the forests give way to alpine meadows crisscrossed by glistening streams and rivulets before entering the Hampta valley. Most of the camping sites on this trek look straight out picture postcards. The Hamta Pass trek follows the traditional route of nomadic shepherds who take large herd of sheep from Kullu valley into Lahul and then onto Spiti valley. The highlight of this trek is crossing the Hampta Pass (4,268 m) after negotiating a tricky trail through a glacier and snowfield before reaching the top. From the summit of the pass you will be able to get a wide-angle view of some of the towering peaks of the Pir Panjal range.
